Adding and Editing Marks

You can edit the course of a tracking session at any time, whether the session is Scheduled, In progress or Finished

If the session has already started, classification and performance analytics will be automatically recalculated based on the new course layout.

Who Can Edit Marks?

Editing marks is restricted to eStela system administrators. If you are not authorized, you won’t see the editing tools.

Why Edit Marks?

There are several reasons you might want to update or adjust a course:

  • To improve visualization and alignment of the map

  • To recover missing buoy roundings, which affect real-time classification and post-race metrics

Having accurately placed marks is essential for reliable race data.

How to Edit or Add Marks

You have two options depending on where you are and what device you’re using:

  1. Website Course Editor (Desktop)

Accessible from the tracking session configuration page, the web-based editor allows you to:

  • Drag and drop marks directly on a map

  • Add, move, rename, or delete marks

  • Save updates to the course instantly

This tool is best used on a desktop or laptop and provides the most precision for course setup and fine-tuning.

  1. Course Anchoring App (Phone GPS)

Click Use phone GPS from the tracking session dashboard to open a lightweight mobile web app. This tool is designed for in-water use by race organizers on speedboats or RIBs.

With this app, you can:

  • Navigate to existing marks or waypoints

  • Update a mark’s location using your phone’s GPS

  • Anchor new marks precisely based on real-time positioning

This method is ideal when setting up or adjusting the course out on the water.
